mondoBIOTECH presents clincal trial result at ATS 2008
Basel, May 16, 2008 - mondoBIOTECH, a private Swiss biotechnology company, today announced that the data from the clinical trial “AVICUTE - Aviptadil in Pulmonary Hypertension” will be presented on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the 2008 ATS International Conference in Toronto, Canada at the session “DIAGNOSIS, TREATMENT, AND PROGNOSIS OF PULMONARY HYPERTENSION” from 1:30 pm to 4:15 pm.

“Twenty patients with pulmonary hypertension of different etiologies, either medication naive or treated with different approved PAH medicaments, were included in this clinical phase II study. Patients received a single dose of 100 micrograms of Aviptadil (Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide) during right heart catheter testing" commented Dorian Bevec, Chief Scientific Officer of mondoBIOTECH “All patients tolerated Aviptadil inhalation well with no apparent serious negative side effects. Acute hemodynamics and blood gases were measured at baseline, at the end of inhalation, and every 15 minutes thereafter for another hour. Aviptadil inhalation leads to pulmonary vasodilation and a reduced workload of the right heart ventricle. This is observed not only in IPAH patients, but also in non-IPAH patients. Importantly, Aviptadil inhalation improved oxygenation in patients with chronic lung diseases underlying Pulmonary Hypertension.”

About Aviptadil
Aviptadil is a synthetically produced version of the endogenous human peptide Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP). Its biological role has been widely researched in a variety of diseases and in healthy situations. Aviptadil is produced by neurons, by endocrine cells, as well as by cells of the immune system. In scientific literature, Aviptadil is considered as one of the body’s ‘Molecules that Protect’. Aviptadil received Orphan Medicinal Product Designation status for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, Acute Lung Injury, and Sarcoidosis in the European Union, and for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome in the USA. mondoBIOTECH entered an exclusive collaboration and license agreement with Biogen Idec to develop, manufacture and commercialize Aviptadil for the treatment of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.
